WHO WE ARE
The idea for Arte Urbano originated in Colombia. Alex, a founder, has been living in Medellin since 2018 and his love for art means that it is not easy for local artists to earn a good income. Local artists often have a hard time financially and especially in the period when there is less tourism, it is difficult to earn a basic income.
The idea for Arte Urbano arose during a vacation when Joost was visiting Alex in Colombia. After several visits to art markets and further conversations with local artists, the idea took shape.
With Arte Urbano we want to give artists from all over the world a platform to offer their work digitally to art lovers. With this we offer them the opportunity to reach a much larger audience and in this way earn a good income with their artistic talents.
In addition to paying a fair commission for their artworks, we also support social projects in deprived areas with Arte Urbano. Read more below about how we currently support local projects .
OUR MISSION
We want to make great art, that is present in many places in the world, accessible to art lovers in a digital way.
On the other hand, we want to contribute to local artists and projects.
We support local artists by providing a platform for them to sell their art. A fair commission is paid to the artist for each artwork sold.
We also have the 3% rule. This means that 3% of our profit goes structurally to projects that contribute to the development of the local population. Our goal is to reduce inequality and give people opportunities that we have had ourselves. Read more about the project we are currently supporting below.
3% RULE
We are currently supporting Volunteers in Colombia. The goal of this project is providing girls and young women, between the ages of 7 and 25 years who are disadvantaged by poverty and gender violence, the tools necessary to improve their self-confidence and self-esteem. This program will ultimately empower them to use their voice by coming together and building a better future for themselves and their community.
